There are more people struggling with mental illness today that there were about 25 years ago.

Adolescents and children have been affected by these illness and along with the substance abuse issues, it has further complicated treatment and care and their access to comprehensive psychiatric services.

There are not enough child psychiatric treatment centers across United States to address major childhood psychiatric conditions like Autism, Intellectual Disability (Mental Retardation), ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety Disorders and Depressive Disorders. Not enough services available to handle children and adolescents who have gone through neglect and physical, emotional and sexual abuse.

Adults with mental illness are also facing more challenges in getting the adequate treatment, as there seems to be a shortage of psychiatric services in the country. Substance use disorders are on the rise and they impact patient’s level of functioning and significantly contribute to the mortality and morbidity associated.

Opiate related deaths have increased over the last few years. More and more adolescents and adults are abusing opiates and thus facing challenges in treatment, as there are not enough centers and providers qualified to handle this population.

At FMRC, we are also developing comprehensive addiction treatment services. We are able to provide Suboxone/Buprenorphine prescription and monitoring. We also have plans to open a drug rehab program and center. We are hoping that it will be one of its kind in Northern Virginia to help patients deal with substance abuse issues and show them the path to recovery.

Then we need to have links posted on the page about these issues: Please click the following conditions to learn more.

For some, finding pain relief can seem like a lofty goal after numerous back-and-forth visits between primary care provider and specialist or undergoing ineffective prescription or over-the-counter drug therapies. Advanced interventional pain management may be the solution to a better quality of life. Interventional pain management utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to provide a full range of treatments and services for patients suffering from acute and chronic pain conditions. Interventional pain management techniques are used for a variety of purposes: diagnostic, to determine the source of pain; therapeutic, to treat painful conditions; prognostic, to predict outcome of other interventional treatments; and preemptive, to prevent other pain conditions that could result from certain procedures. Read on for information on available interventional treatment options.

  • Epidural Steroid Injections (Interlaminar vs. Transforminal)
  • Sacroiliac Joint Injection
  • Nerve Root/Medial Branch Blocks/Radiofrequency Rhizotomy
  • Spinal Cord and Peripheral Nerve Stimulators
  • Intra-thecal Drug Pumps

Other pain management procedures include epidurolysis in which scar tissue around entrapped nerves in the epidural space of the spine is dissolved so that medications can better reach affected areas and provocative discography in which a liquid is injected into the nucleus of the intervertebral disc under image guidance to reproduce discogenic pain and provide diagnostic information for treatment. The interventional pain management physicians at our medical center will work with you to determine if interventional pain management is the best approach to treating your condition, and if so, what option will be the most effective.

Our focus on interventional pain management means that a team of healthcare professionals, from diverse therapeutic fields, work together to provide you with the best possible care for the highest level of pain relief.

Pharmacogenomics is the study of genetic variations that influence individual response to drugs. Knowing whether a patient carries any of these genetic variations can help prescribers individualize drug therapy, decrease the chance for adverse drug events, and increase the effectiveness of drugs. Pharmacogenomics is a rapidly advancing field, becoming the standard of care for health care professional. Use of genetic or other molecular biomarker has improved the safety, effectiveness of drug therapy and management.

The challenge in drug therapy is to make sure that the active form of a drug stays around long enough to do its job. However, some people have variable enzyme action so that they may metabolize the drug too quickly or too slowly or not at all — meaning that the drug may not produce its intended effect or it may remain in a person’s system too long and may lead to side effects.

Our vision is to become the leader in the field of genetic testing which is certainly going to modify present treatment regimens into modern, well balanced, cost effective and calculated style of treatment for the future.
